Rector’s Welcome

   Since its foundation in 1975, the TEI has substantially promoted Education in the region of West Macedonia and, generally, in Greece. The TEI has dynamically been involved in the local issues, catering for higher education studies in all four counties of West Macedonia, incorporating innovation and interdisciplinary approach to education in conjunction with development and research mobility, and also placing emphasis on decentralization and interaction with the society.

For 37 years, the TEI, based on qualitative and quantitative research and educational criteria, has aimed at providing initiatives and conveying scientific knowledge and research, and has also emphasized its connection with the local community, organizations and businesses, with a view to integrating knowledge and technology into economic and social development.

The TEI has significantly contributed to educational and research work in Greece by providing well qualified graduates, and also concerned citizens. It was one of the first Greek Higher Education Institutions, which, according to the European Union directives, had awarded the Diploma Supplement long before it was established by law. Notably, the TEI has been awarded with the DS Label, certifying the quality of its courses. Moreover, it expanded activities and was dynamically involved in society as an integral and vibrant part, not only by focusing on education and research, but also by organizing a diverse range of scientifically and socially oriented cultural events and activities.

Experiencing the current debt crisis in Greece, the contribution of Higher Education Institutions has been crucial to helping overcoming it and advancing social development. Cooperating with all competent parties, the TEI has taken a leading role to promote and enhance a strategic planning for Higher Education Institutions, by setting short- and long-term development goals, with a view to ensuring Higher Education quality and sustainability in West Macedonia.
